THE POLIO YEARS IN TEXAS
Battling a Terrifying Unknown
From the 1930s to the 1950s, the rising epidemic of paralytic
poliomyelitis (polio) threatened lives in the United States, especially in
the South. Houston and Harris County, Texas had the second-highest rate of
infection in the nation, and the rest of the Texas Gulf was particularly
hard-hit.

Our Mission
is to further promote public and community awareness of Post Polio Syndrome
also to promote interest in PPS and in educating the public and community.
We strive to make a difference through education both to the patients and to
the community we serve.
Our purpose
as support group is provide an opportunity for education, friendship, and an
exchange of information on life-style adaptation, assistive equipment,
medical treatment and provide a welcoming place to bond with fellow polio
survivors.
We are a group of
life-loving polio survivors who come together to share information such as
medical, equipment, braces and any new techniques that could help us and our
families to achieve a more positive attitude through informed suggestions.
