The June 3'rd Monthly Meeting Of The
Bay Area Support Group
June 3, 2006
Hello, Survivors!
First, special thanks are extended to our co-leaders, John and Doris, for arranging a presentation on sleep apnea and breathing problems. We had great attendance, with just over 30 people present.
Joining our group for this presentation were visitors from the MS Support Group, and some folks from the Friendswood (or, Southeast) Post Polio Support Group.
Denise Taylor, with Memorial Hermann Hospital, provided detailed information, as well as answered many questions on equipment usage and updates, signs and symptoms indicating the need for sleep studies, and what some of the side effects and causes of sleep disturbances are attributed to. By the attentiveness and note-taking, I think a lot of us left the meeting with much more information than we anticipated! If you have problems sleeping, or are a ‘snorer’, it may be a good idea to discuss them in detail with your doctor. There are many side effects and consequences of untreated sleep apnea.
For some good news, Virginia was thrilled to announce that her nephew’s book review of a well known chef made the New York Times list! She has reason to be proud!
Also, our web site has some important information about evacuation procedures for those in need of assistance, rides, etc. And, there’s also information about wheelchair beach access in Galveston.
Sunday, July 9, from 2-4 pm is the next main TPS meeting at TIRR. This meeting will address election of officers, and a speaker will provide information on evacuation for hurricanes.
Our next meeting will be July 8, the 2nd Saturday in July due to the holiday weekend. We’re having a family picnic at Sea Breeze Park in La Porte (1200 Bayshore Dr. & Sea Breeze), right on the Bay with fishing pier, playground, covered pavilion, and handicap access. If you go east on Fairmont Parkway to Sylvan Beach, turn left onto Bayshore Dr. (the street running alongside Sylvan Beach) and stay on it until it dead ends into the park. Think about what tasty dish you might like to share, and we’ll try and get a list going and some information out soon.
Hope to see you there!
